Essential Oils for Hair Growth

By October 19, 2018 No Comments

When I began to gather research and ideas for helping me through my hair and eyelash pulling treatment I knew I needed some sort of topical cream or lotion to rub into the affected areas. I was looking for something that would both assist me in changing the pulling urges into stroking, and to help with healing and encourage hair growth. At first I only found products such as Nioxin and Latisse, and I tried those. However I never found them helpful and on the contrary, I found that they irritated the areas and actually made my hair pulling worse. I really needed something natural. Some essential oils for hair growth

I was also aware that it is in the pharmaceutical industries’ best interest to encourage the use of costly medication. Natural and preventative remedies such as essential oils are rarely the first types of treatments that the established medical community will promote and so it is up to us as individuals to find our own natural and holistic opportunities for healing. However if you begin to do some research, you will see that there is proven research that essential oils do help with hair growth.

Living in France, I had learned to be aware of the benefits of natural solutions.
While still relatively little used in the US, many countries promote essential oils, homeopathy, Eastern medicine and other natural remedies both as a preventative medicine and active cures. In fact, in countries where medical treatment is paid for by the government, these methods are actively promoted and paid for in order to keep medical costs down. France, for example, reimburses preventative and many natural curative treatments.

So I began to research how I could use essential oils for hair growth and to treat my eyelash pulling and for trichotillomania, and I found that there is an abundance of ways that natural treatments can be effective.

Essential oils for hair growth and to treat hair and eyelash pulling can be used in several ways:

Essential Oils for Hair GrowthFirstly, essential oils can be used as a natural substance to stroke on the area, used whenever there is an urge to pull as an alternative action for stimulus input. For me this was key because it helped me not only relieve the nagging feelings, but more importantly, it helped me rewire my brain and change the pulling action to a stroking action. I still find myself stroking or rubbing when I feel an urge coming on. Rubbing is much better than pulling!  Essential oils have been used for millennia as healing agents. They can be used to calm and sooth follicles. I suffered from itchy, irritated follicles and the essential oils were a relief for the ‘physical’ and uncomfortable sensation pushing me to pull. In addition, the oiliness made it difficult to pull. Essential oils nourish hair follicles and encourage hair growth. They increase circulation, improve scalp health and stimulate re-growth of hair and eyelashes.
Essential oils can be used as a part of aromatherapy and can be surprisingly effective in rebalancing a sufferer’s mental, emotional, and physical well being, which will help in long term treatment of hair pulling. Essential oils used in aromatherapy, massages and spa treatments are successfully in treating anxiety, phobias and panic attacks, influencing the patient’s moods and assisting in stopping compulsive hair pulling behavior. They work as a stimulus, breaking the trance and helping the puller to shift his or her attention. Functioning in conjunction with the person’s own internal drive towards equilibrium and healing, they influence brain chemistry and help the patient gain in psychological strength. Natural treatments are based on the idea that body and mind are dynamically interconnected and that both directly influence each other, and thus both must be treated for effective results.

Hair pulling treatments using essential oils are curative, non-toxic and gentle, with few or no side effects.
Essential oils are evaporated or distilled from plants. In doing so the powerful chemical properties are extracted and can then be used for medicinal and therapeutic goals. An example is linalyl acetate, a powerful chemical found in lavender oil which helps make it so effective in increasing hair growth.

With low risk of side effects, and no artificial chemicals to irritate the scalp or follicles, essential oils are very effective for trichotillomania hair regrowth, hair pulling treatments and improving hair health in general, not only helping hair grow but making it stronger and more luxuriant.

How can you stimulate hair growth with essential oils?

Essential Oils for Hair GrowthTry using a combination from this list of key essential oils for hair growth:

Essential essences:
Peppermint, lavender, thyme, cedarwood, clary sage, basil, tea tree, Saint Thomas bay, Rosemary with cineole, Ginger, Provence Cypress, Citrus, Scots pine
These essential oils speed up hair growth by generating cell growth, increasing circulation and reducing stress. They actively improve microcirculation in the scalp, facilitating nourishment of the capillary bulb. Researchers have found these oils were able to generate hair growth in mice, increasing the number of hair follicles, follicle depth and often had equal or better results than many of the chemical compounds for hair growth available on the market. They also have antibacterial properties, which improve scalp health and overall hair condition.

Essential oils:
Castor, olive, jojoba, mustard, aloe vera and ylang ylang
These oils stimulate hair follicles and improve hair texture and reduce hair breakage.

We encourage individuals to look at what natural and ‘alternative’ treatments are available. Due to our own and other’s success, we strongly advocate a ‘natural’ approach to healing, using all natural products such as essential oils and herbal essences, and reducing the presence of chemicals in your daily routine. Include essential oils in a regime composed of modifications to diet, exercise, awareness and mindfulness training, homeopathy, and behavior modification therapy instead of pharmaceuticals and medicating.

To use essential oils most effectively in your trichotillomania hair regrowth and pulling treatments try the following:
Keep some essential oils with you at times that you are susceptible to pull and choose it as an alternative action as well as a soother and a reminder that you are experiencing your triggers and that you can overcome them.
Give yourself a mini sauna using essential oils and natural plants.
Apply a mixture of essential oils to your bald spots morning and evening to encourage hair growth and healing
Make sure to use high quality, organic ingredients for the best results and to avoid side effects

Essential oils and plant essences can be used to promote hair growth and eyelash growth, soothe hair follicles, reduce urges, and most importantly, encourage behavior modification, helping you to treat your hair pulling and eyelash pulling through a multitude of natural and effective methods.
