Can we use Reiki as hair and eyelash pulling treatment?
Reiki is a spiritual practice used also as alternative therapy, which, in combination with other treatments, can help in solving physical, emotional and mental conditions such as hair pulling.
It originated in Japan in late 800’s under Master Mikao Usui, who asserted that everyone of us is potentially able to channel Universal Vital Energy, and then direct it for curative purposes. Once initiated to the Reiki journey, one is able to access this energy’s inexhaustible source, in order to treat oneself and others.
But how does it work, and can Reiki help hair and eyelash pullers?
Reiki Treatments, received from a Master or a practitioner from 2nd level up, consist of a first, brief interview in order to understand the patient’s psychophysical situation.
Then the Reiki treatment begins by the practitioner laying their hands on the patient to channel energy.
The practitioner will determine a very specific intent in order to allow the Energy to give the best results, and then will put his hands near the body’s patient, letting Universal Energy flow through them. Sessions last around 60 minutes, during which the recipient may experience physical or emotional feelings or nothing at all. The extent of feelings is not important for the session to be effective. Indeed everyone is different and will react to Reiki Energy in his or her own personal way.
Reiki followers believe that this kind of alternative therapy can be useful in solving a variety of disorders, including Trichotillomania. The increase in energy can sooth follicles, speed up hair re-growth, alleviate itching and promote cellular regeneration. It’s all about choosing the right intent while channeling the Energy.
“It’s important to remember that, when working with healing therapies related to Energy, much as with any other therapy, it is necessary for the receiver to examine himself on an emotional level, and to “allow” himself to heal,” states Antonella Bramani – Reiki Master. “I have had much success in helping those with body focused repetitive conditions, and at times the first obstacle to success is my patient’s “difficulty” in letting the condition go. Disorder becomes a companion which gives a sense of safeness, and from which it is hard to separate.”
Having a confident approach to the therapy is key, and after analyzing your relationship with the disorder, make a conscious decision to heal. Remember: intent can lay the basis for a successful therapy journey.
Once you have received some Reiki treatments, you can decide to continue on this pathway to become a 1st level Reiki Pratictioner. Doing so, you will be a Reiki channeler yourself and you will learn useful tools to practice Reiki Self-Treatments. These tools would help in moments when you feel the urge to pull, acting as a distraction as well as development that leads you to benefits on a psychophysical level.
Self treatments lead to improved concentration, allowing you to clear your mind, relax your body, focus on an intent , and take care of yourself. You only need a quiet place, relaxing music in background, a Reiki timer (you can find several free apps) and your hands!
You can research online for a Reiki Center or a Master that can accompany you in these very first steps into the world of Reiki. You can even access distance Reiki Treatments (equally effective as in-person) in order to use Reiki as a hair and eyelash pulling treatment.
When I asked hair pullers that use Reiki in their Trichotillomania treatment this is what they had to say about the role of Reiki and alternative treatments in their hair pulling cures:
“Reiki treatments have helped me have positive results on both a physical and emotional level. I have had good results in terms of hair re-growth in addition to an increasing mood improvement and stress reduction. This has influenced my tendency to pull, helping me have more self-confidence and optimism and giving me the strength to continue with my healing process.”
“I have suffered from hair pulling since I was a kid and I decided try Reiki Therapy in addition to my Psychotherapy, as suggested by a friend. Since I saw the positive influence Reiki Treatments had had on my condition, I decided to continue the journey by taking the 1st Reiki level. That way, I could benefit from Auto-Treatments at any time I felt the urge to pull. Today, I can say that Reiki is a good aid in beating Trichotillomania and I decided to become a Reiki Master myself. Supported by other treatments, Reiki allows me to have positive results on a psychophisycal level, increasing self-confidence too.”
“I’ve suffered from Trichotillomania for years, trying different methods to heal. With Reiki the emotional impact has been strong, because it pushes you to do a lot of internal work. The Master invited me to look within myself, in order to understand why, even though I spent years trying to beat it, I was still affected with Trichotillomania. As a result of the evaluations, I become aware that, instead of considering the condition as a part of me, I was trying to refuse it, paradoxically causing increasing symptoms. Understanding this basic factor for my healing, then I finally allowed myself to throw off this weight and begin to follow the Reiki journey with self – confidence and serenity.”
A positive and confident approach and consistency in treatments can make Reiki as hair and eyelash pulling treatment can be a valuable ally in your healing process.
